We’re Going to the EWF's National Writers’ Conference!
Come and see us at EWF’s National Writers’ Conference, where we’re co-sponsoring a small press panel!

We’ve teamed up with the good folk at Emerging Writers’ Festival to co-sponsor a panel all about publishing through small presses at this year’s National Writers’ Conference. Together with Tellwell Publishing, the NWC panel we’re helping bring to budding self-published authors is all about small press publishing and assisted self-publishing as an effective and exciting way to bring your work to life. Plus, we’re even hosting a stall at the conference, so you can come and say hello and find out all you need to know to get started on your book printing journey.

FolioFox at the National Writer’s Conference
- Where: The Wheeler Centre, Melbourne CBD
- When: Saturday, September 12 to Sunday, September 13, 2026
- Purchase weekend tickets here.
What Is the National Writers’ Conference?
As part of Melbourne’s Emerging Writers’ Festival, the National Writers’ Conference is the heart of the EWF’s program. Created as a way for emerging writers to advance their skills, learn from industry experts, network with publishing professionals and connect with fellow writers, the NWC is the perfect place to learn all you need to know to get a leg up in your writing career.
At this year’s NWC, FolioFox will be hosting a very special stall that will function as a place for writers to come and learn about the printing process to bring their self-published book to life. We’re joining forces with Tellwell Publishing - an Australian publishing company that edits, designs, illustrates, distributes, prints and markets books for indie authors - to create a space for emerging writers to learn more about the nitty gritty of the publishing process.
Come along to our stall to ask any and all questions you might have about printing your own self-published book, as well as get a quote on your printing project, look at book printing samples, and grab some freebies (expect some nifty bookmarks and paper craft projects!).

The Submit, Sign or Start a Small Press Panel
- Where: The Wheeler Centre, Melbourne CBD
- When: Saturday, September 12; 11.30am to 12.30pm
- Purchase single tickets here. (You don’t need to purchase a ticket if you already have a NWC pass.)
We can’t wait to bring this Submit, Sign or Start a Small Press panel to you at this year’s National Writers’ Conference. The important role of small presses in Australia’s publishing landscape is often overlooked, and so a group of industry experts are teaming up to demystify the behind-the-scenes of what small presses do and how they can help emerging or self-published authors get their work seen.
The Submit, Sign or Start a Small Press panel will include professional insight from former trade editor, Writers Victoria mentor and Senior Lecturer in publishing studies at the University of Melbourne Katherine Day, book designer and poetry editor Phil Day, Publishing Consultant at Tellwell Publishing Ashleigh Hartley, and speculative fiction author, musician and Vice President of Meridian Australis Henry Neilsen.
Purchasing a full weekend pass will grant you access not just to the Submit, Sign or Start a Small Press panel, but also access to all of NWC’s sessions and events over the course of the weekend. Just interest in this panel? You can get yourself a single ticket to come along and find out more about small press publishing. We can’t wait to see you there and help you begin on your self-publishing journey.
